Photobooth extravaganza!
The old school me is online again on flickr.com. I've decided I need to post my entire photobooth collection online. Tonight I uploaded another 48 strips to add to the collection. I still have a few more to put up. Some of them are of me kissing old boyfriends and stuff (ignore those honey!). In general, they represent a lot of good times, as well as my various shades of hair. You can even see some pictures of my sister Lara in there, preggers with Miles. yay!
Enjoy and share amongst yourselves.

Miles Mislang is nearly 6 months old
I took photos of my sister's son Miles when he had just turned 4 months and I finally put them up on flickr this week. I loved processing them, looking at his precious face makes me want to hop on a flight back to California! Thank God my sister Cindy is getting married in May so I have a good excuse to come home and see him!
Miles and I do see each other still, but only on the computer. It is pretty cool actually, we started video chatting when he was only 2 months old and we do it about once ever week or so. In the beginning, he was like a little blob with eyes, he would occasionally stare at the screen or be attracted to my voice. Then things got more interesting when he finally started smiling!
For awhile, I could do whatever I wanted on the video. I could smoosh up really close to the lens and look all big and distorted and he would find this entertaining. Then when he was about 5 months old we began a chat and I held the camera close so my face was distorted, he took one long silent look at me and then erupted in tears! It was so funny, and sort of sad but I understood completely. He had grown up enough to know that my face wasn't normal. There was something definitely wrong with the picture. It frightened him but it amused me. From now on I'm making sure my face isn't distorted and since then he has not reacted with fear to watching me on the screen. This is a good thing.
So this week, we were chatting after I had not seen him in about two weeks (Europe trip and all). Lara had recently reported that he had started grasping out for her, pulling her hair, touching her face etc. His new favorite thing to do is take out his pacifier and put it back in all by himself. So cute.
So we're chatting and he is so lively, and he looks huge and adorable. I get him to smile with almost no effort too! Then he did the cutest thing. I started to mimic him when he leaned over on his side once and he noticed. Then he righted himself, looked at me, and I did it again... and so did he. It was great, we played our first game! Lara and I cracked up immediately and this of course only reassured him that he was doing something good! So we played like this for a few minutes, with him spontaneously leaning over and watching for me to follow. I loved it.
Lara and I got back to talking and then she'd start laughing again because he was trying to have her let him lean over again. I attempted to get him to try and lean the other way but he just kept on going the same way! I'm looking forward to more fun games on the computer.
I hope this means that I'm still familiar to him when I do come home in a month.

global warming effects mapped out.
They are expecting a 7 meter rise within 500 years... perhaps this is a good way to choose real estate.

Dooce hatemail & Nornna the movie??
Hate mail sharing for Dooce! Yay! It is all so amusing but my favorite one has got to be this one:
Walter G:
"Everything that you gained will be taken away from you. You are simply a Man-Hating Psycho Lesbian Jealous Feminist! I predict bannishment to the Island of FagLesbian or a re-adjustment camp for you and your ilk!"
[The Island of FagLesbian? That only sounds like ONE BIG PARTY. Send me now!] <---Dooce's response.
Re: Nornna
Oh lord this is getting nearly out of hand! Someone has cut together a rather nice trailer for the upcoming Nornna documentary. I totally approve! I really wonder how Nora is taking all of this. It must be rather overwhelming. Her activity on the site seems to have slowed down lately and I only assume it is because of the thousands of emails she is getting.

Nora on the rise
I was just contacted by a reporter from the NY times. He is doing a piece on YouTube and specifically Nornna. He asked a slew of relevant questions. Apparently it will be coming out this next Sunday so keep an eye out for it. I knew she was going to be big, but I wouldn't have thought that the NY times would have caught on so quickly, props to them.

YouTube celebrity watch
For those of you who might not be familiar yet, YouTube is a pretty cool thing. People from everywhere can upload videos on to the net for free. Like other social software, you can make friends, add comments and even rate the videos you like. You can browse random ones based on ratings, content, tags, or number of times watched.
I ended up stumbling upon a videoblogger who is clearly on the rise to becoming the next internet celebrity. Her name is Nora but her username on YouTube is Nornna. Nornna is 24 years old and lives in Wisconsin and works in retail. She has a cat named Patty and she loves Eeyore (The Eeyore from Winnie the Poo). She powders her feet, wears Eyore pjs, watches TV and makes herself pb&j sandwiches for breakfast. She rides the bus to work and walks to choir practice. She videotapes nearly all of these things. Nornna has posted over 700 videos in her videoblog catalog. Some "haters" (as she calls them) make fun of her and say mean things. She sticks up for herself and tells them to shut it. Check her out, she is awesome. My favorites so far: "Eating a Cordog" and "Taco"

Thank you Harry Taylor!
On April 6th in Charlotte NC, President "Why I am currently embarrassed to be an American" Bush was taking questions and this guy, Harry Taylor made an unplanned statement, which many people can relate to. While watching the video I felt inspired and relieved that someone actually said that to his face - Especially the part about being ashamed of our leadership. I am also pleased that GW let him continue speaking instead of talking over him or cutting his statement short. Watch the video.
The only thing that worries me is that somewhere in those glistening eyes he was thinking the whole time, "this guy is gonna pay" because as we all know, when you speak out against little George, sometimes bad things happen.

By Plane, Train, Gondola and the Tube
My lord, that vacation was a whirlwind of experiences. I am so thankful to my mother for carting me and all my excess baggage all over Europe. I am just about to crash (its 5am for me right now) so I can't get into details yet.
I took hundreds of photos... endless photos.
It is going to be a major immediate project to get them all ready and put them on flickr.
The Depeche Mode shows were awesome, especially London. It was great to see the guys relaxed, happy and on their home turf. Martin & Andy both expressed that the London crowd would probably be relatively mild, but from where I was it was anything but! The air was electrified; there was a lot of love in that room.
Martin was cracking jokes on stage, Dave addressed the audience more directly saying, "you guys still out there?" Andy was so animated and when he saw me in the photo pit he pointed to me and blew me kisses. It was one of the best DM shows I've seen (and I think I've seen a lot, I stopped counting at 15).
I can't wait to share photos & stories. I will probably write one entry (at least) on each city/country we visited. Starting tomorrow, with Zurich Switzerland. Stay tuned.
